Here is an excellent film on Nezhmetdinov sent by Ray Kappel. The Soviet
Chess master Rashid Nezhmetdinov was one of the most feared attacking
players in chess history. Although not well known in the west, he won many
brilliancy prizes and defeated most of the best players of his era,
including Mikhail Tal, Boris Spassky, David Bronstein, Efim Geller, Lev
Polugaevsky, Isaak Boleslavsly, Salo Flohr, Andor Lilienthal, Gideon
Stahlberg, and many other strong grandmasters.

Russia takes gold at the World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad

The Turkish Chess Federation (TCF) organised the World Youth Under-16 Chess
Olympiad in Kocaeli, Turkey from 23rd October to 1st November. Armenia held
the lead throughout the tournament, but the Russian team played a very
convincing finish. Russia went into the lead in the penultimate round and
eventually clinched the gold medal. Russia won 9 matches and lost one.
Armenia, with 6 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses, takes silver medal, point and a
half behind Russia.

Hi everyone,
Thomas Luther has won the 1st World Chess Games for Disabled. The players
were awarded in the categories: overall, the Physically Disabled (IPCA),
blind (IBCA), deaf (ICSC) and the best teams. Each of the three best players
in these categories were given medals and cash prizes.
Thomas Luther, who played for the chess festival ZMDI eV was able to achieve
7 points in 7 rounds for the tournament and win the gold medal. Apart from

America's number one grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura is working with 13th World
Chess Champion Garry Kasparov. Their collaboration started before the Tata

World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand beat 2nd seed Shakhriyar Mamedyarov
2-0 in the final of the Corsica Masters knock-out which moves from Bastia to
Ajaccio on Monday 31st October. Earlier rounds and the main open all took
place in Bastica. Krishnan Sasikiran finished on 7.5/9 half a point clear of
