The 8th game of the match was drawn – and Hou Yifan (China) wins the World
championship match against Humpy Koneru (India) with 5.5 – 2,5 score.
The match was to consist of 10 games but Hou Yifan got the decisive 5,5
points already after 8 encounters. In the last, eighth game, Humpy Koneru
needed only to win to stay in the match, but the Chinese player was
accurate to equalize with Black and secure a draw.
The closing ceremony of the match will be held as scheduled on the 30th of

It's the moment to congratulate the young and very talented Hou Yifan of
China for winning the Women's World Chess Championship 2011 that has just
ended in Tirana, Albania. Drawing the eighth game against Challenger Koneru
Humpy, a few minutes ago, Yifan retains her title by reaching the 5.5 mark
first in the 10-match event. Yifan had managed a three-point lead already
by the seventh round.

In the 7th game Hou Yifan had white pieces. Humpy Koneru managed to
equalize in Ruy Lopez that was played for the third time in the match. But
in the middle game the challenger started to act too risky and gave her
opponent a chance to win a pawn that was immediately grabbed by Hou Yifan.
In the endgame the Chinese player took another pawn to secure her victory.
After 7 games the World champion is leading 5-2 and only a miracle can help
Koneru to win all of the remaining three games.

Hi everyone,
Indian Grandmaster Koneru Humpy went down fighting on Wednesday for the
third time (second time in a row) as the challenger to Women's World Chess
Champion Hou Yifan. The 10-game match for the world title is being held in
Tirana, Albania. This gives Hou a 5-2 lead in the event. Hou now needs just
half a point more in the remaining last three rounds to win the title.

Just when we were about to say that the sixth round at the VI Tal Chess
Memorial in Moscow ended in all draws for the third round in a row, the
nice one decisive game of Round 7 happened. All games were drawn in the
sixth round and the seventh round except Vassily Ivanchuk beating Hikaru
Nakamura in the seventh round!
Now, Ivanchuk joins Levon Aronian, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Magnus Carlsen and
