Congratulations to GM Ivan Salgado of Spain for winning the strong Ciutat de
Barcelona Chess event. The young grandmaster finished with 5.5/10, the same
points as GM Yasser Seirawan, but better tiebreak. Third place went to GM
Kevin Spraggett, according to www.chessdom.com. Earlier, we had news that
top seed GM Eduardo Iturrizaga did not participate because he was in a car

a super exhibition of a chess set, according to The New York Times. When the
Metropolitan Museum of Art’s new galleries of Islamic art open on Nov. 1,
among the treasures on display will be one of the oldest chess sets in the

Egeraat has been awarded the prestigious Russian Best Building Award for his
'Chess-club building' in Khanty–Mansiysk. Directly after completion the

Hi everyone,
Anthony Koppany, 93, of Lansdale, an accomplished chess player who once
played Bobby Fischer to a draw, died Monday, Oct. 17, at home. A native of
Hungary, Mr. Koppany learned to play chess when he was 10 from a relative
who became a chess master. After emigrating to the United States in 1949, he
played with the North City Chess Club and was later director of the Franklin
Mercantile Chess Club in Center City.

grueling simulation of a flight to Mars that will keep them locked in a
cascade of windowless modules for 520 days - the amount of time required for

Governor’s Cup was 11 rounds all-play-all event with an impressive field.

October 11-19 in the Kemer, Antalys, Turkey . Overall Turkish children won

Here is a nice preview video from the upcoming 15th Corsican Chess Circuit
to be held from October 22-29 in Bastia and October 31 in Ajaccio. More than
700 players are taking part in the event including a simul by World Chess
Champion Viswanathan Anand. The 15 top players of the youth tournament,
another 15 by draw, and another 30 from the main tournament will face the
World Champion.

The latest tournament chess news we have is that GM Aramis Pedraza has won
the Bogota University Chess Festival that was held from October 13-17. It
was the fifth edition of the event and included several tournaments like the
international elite, children's, juniors etc.
A total of 175 players took part in the 9-round Elite Open. Cuban
