On 8 October the third stage of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix started in
Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia.
Twelve strong chess players are going to play against each other. The whole
world will be watching their games for two weeks.
FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov attended the opening ceremony and
delivered a welcome speech to the participants, organizers and guests of the
tournament. He pointed out that during these years Nalchik has really become
the world chess center as Nalchik hosts big chess events for the fourth

On 8 October the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Grozny, the
capital of Chechen Republic, Russia. These days the big celebrations took
place there marking City Day.
The Chechen Republic is a federal subject of the Russian Federation. It is
located in the Northern Caucasus mountains.
In Grozny FIDE President had conducted negotiations with the Head of the

The chess news from the Grand Slam Bilbao Chess Masters is that - as luck
would have it - tournament leader Vassily Ivanchuk lost to tail-ender
Francisco Vallejo. Both Anand-Nakamura and Aronian-Carlsen ended in a draw,
and so Ivanchuk is now still five points ahead of Anand, Aronian, Carlsen

that the Hungarian Women Chess Championship took place from 26th September
to 5th October at the Hunguest Hotel Forrás in Szeged. Ten players competed

section of the Grand Slam Chess Masters, he began the Bilbao leg with a cool

On Wednesday the second leg of the Grand Slam Masters Final was officially
opened in Bilbao, Spain. Five of the six players were present - Vassily
