The chess news update is that the Corsica Masters 2011 has begun. As usual,
all the top-seeded players won their games in the first round with only one
surprise of the day being GM Cheparinov drawing Lennard Loewe (2077)
The tournament includes more than 180 players from 20 countries including
the GM Fressinet, GM Sasikiran, GM Grigoryan, GM Cheparinov, GM Gawain
Jones, GM Tregubov, GM Mamedov, GM Ghaem Maghami, and other titled players.

Just a few days back we had Alexander Morozevich return to the top-10 club
and now we have Vladimir Kramnik get back into the 2800 club with a cool
Unive Chess Tournament win.
The 15th Unive Tournament 2011 was held in in Hoogeveen, Netherlands from
October 16-22.
The double round robin Crown Group had four players: Vladimir Kramnik, Anish
Giri, Maxime Vachier Lagrave and Judit Polgar, with an average rating of

Here's more to it.
The story was about British MP Rachel Reeves and it was an event with none
other than Gary Kasparov in London.
It was the first birthday of Chess in Schools and Communities, held at the
House of Commons on 18th October 2011, with special guests Garry Kasparov,
Nigel Short and children from participating schools. Rachel Reeves MP hosted

Hi everyone,
The chess news update is that 2011 Indonesia Open Chess Championship was
held from October 13-19 at the Le Meredien Hotel in Jakarta. Eighty players
competed in the 9-round Swiss tournament. The generous prize fund amounted
to 55.500 USD, with 10.000 USD reserved for the winner.

Hi everyone,
Between October 14 and 18 a chess train tournament was held in five
different countries. The trip went to five beautiful Central-European
cities; the chess was rapid (25 minutes on the clock for each person, no
increment). The train left from Prague on Friday, October 14th at 10 am and
on the way to Vienna the first 3 rounds of the tournament were played. In

Hi everyone,
Congratulations to Grandmaster Zhao Xue for winning the third edition of the
women's chess grand prix with a convincing 2.5 points despite a last round
loss. It has been a brilliant tournament for the talented chinese player who
played in top form - notching up one of the best performances in her career.
Nothing taking away from the others, but it was just Xue's tournament.
Congratulations to all the girls who participated and made yet another
