The latest chess news about tournaments is that the Chess Academy of
Chalkida “Palamedes of Evia” is holding the “Negroponte 2012″ International
Tournament from August 9 to 17 in the beautiful city of Chalkida in
Greece.The tournament will be an Open 9-round Swiss event with a total
prize fund of 10.000 Euros. First prize is 3.000 EUR, with special prizes
for women, juniors, best performance minus rating, etc. to be awarded.

Indian chess had more to cheer about this Thursday as n Srinathand Ivana
Maria Furtado won the Asian junior Chess Championships in the open and
girls' category in Tashkent. The title also gave them their first
Grandmaster norms.
Srinath played well and won the event with a round to spare. Srinath has
won the under-12 world championship in Belfort in 2005. Another Indian
chess player, Shyam Sundar, had won the title in Sri Lanka last year when

Championship for 2012 is all set to take place in Kallithea-Halkidiki,
Greece at the Athos Palace five-start hotel. The hotel chain is more than
30 years old in the tourism sector. The venue is 80 km (an hour drive)

Tal Chess Memorial - 7th edition is here! The traditional chess tournament
with a dream lineup begins on June 7 and runs until June 19 in Moscow. The
opening ceremony is tomorrow and we can look forward to exciting and

Did you take part in the first qualification event of the super prize-money
online chess grand prix organised by the Russian Chess Federation on June
3? You could still take part even if you missed it. The next qualification
event is on June 24 at 1600 UTC.
The event is being organised in the ChessOK playing zone. The prize money

We just found this nice story about chess boards in a college town park in
Maryland. College Park officials hope a big game of chess will draw big
crowds Downtown.
"We've had these chess boards that have been here for a couple years, and
no one has ever bought chess pieces or checker pieces. A lot of people walk
by and don't know exactly what it is," Economic Development Coordinator
