GM Throstur Thorhallsson is the new Icelandic Chess Champion after he beat
IM Bragi Thorfinnsson in a closely-fought match. Thorhallsson and
Thorfinnsson were joint winners of the Icelandic Chess Champion in April
this year - the strongest Icelandic Championship so far during this
century. They first played a four-game match, which ended 2-2 (one victory
each and two draws) last Monday.

in Rapid Chess in Batumi. Three rounds were played on the first day. Chess

Newly-crowned World champion Viswanathan Anand has been the face of Indian
chess for more than two decades and the five-time title holder said he was
proud to be a part of India's rediscovery of chess. He was speaking at the
press conference after the closing ceremony.

The World Chess Championship Match 2012 has come to its end. The closing
ceremony of the match was conducted by the Chairman of the Russian Chess
Federation Board Ilya Levitov. At the beginning of the ceremony Alexander
Zhukov, the President of the Russian IOC, the 1st Vice Chairman of the
Russian Federation State Duma delivered a speech. Then the warm words were
said by Irina Lebedeva, Director General of the State Tretyakov Gallery and
