Khanty-Mansiysk*
The ex-World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova (Bulgaria) lost her first game at
the championship. She was defeated by Marie Sebag (France). The players
selected a well-known opening variation, and Stefanova, playing Black,
obtained a small advantage. However, she did not utilize all the benefits
of her position and allowed White to make a break in the center. After that

On November 18th the famous American, former Soviet, WGM Elena
Akhmylovskaya passed away after a long illness. WGM Elena Akhmylovskaya was
Champion of the Soviet Union (1980), three-fold Champion of USA (1990,
1993, 1994). In 1986 Akhmylovskaya played a Championship match but lost to
the reigning Champion Maya Chiburdanidze. After Olympiad in 1988 she got
married to US team captain John Donaldson and moved to United States. In

The Women's World Chess Championship 2012 in Khanty Mansiysk is now in the
quarter finals. The fourth round (first game) was played on Tuesday with
one decisive results in four games. Nadezhda Kosintseva let Anna Ushenina
escape, but Marie Sebag beat Antoaneta Stefanova. The other games were
drawn.

Vassily Filipenko, mayor of Khanty-Mansiysk and president of Ugra Chess
Federation, visited the press-center today and answered the journalists'
questions for more than an hour. After the press-conference the mayor
invited everybody to a small excursion around Ugra Chess Academy, and
played an exhibition game with a chess automaton.

We have a comprehensive report on the World Youth Chess Championship 2012
via Chessdom. The World Youth Chess Championships 2012 were held in
Maribor, Slovenia, on 7-19th November. This year around 158 young players
participated in twelve age categories.
