Hi everyone,
Another chess film has won awards - this time at the The New Paper's FiRST
Film Fest (FFF) 2012 last night. And it was a double delight for the
winning entry, titled 64. Not only did the short film win the Best Short
Film award, it also won the Favourite Male Performance award for its
protagonist, assistant editor Louis Law. But director Woo Wan Fong's
leading man on the night wasn't Law - it was 64's director of photography,

According to the latest announcement, the 4th London Chess Classic will be
held from December 1st -10th, 2012. The tournament will again be a nine

Chess legend Lajos Portisch, also known as the Hungarian Botvinnik,
celebrated his 75th birthday on April 4. A special tournament was held in
his honour at the Hilton Hotel in Budapest. Lajos Portisch, born on April
4, 1937, in Zalaegerszeg (Hungary), was one of the strongest non-Soviet
players from the early 1960s into the late 1980s – in fact at the time he

The European School Chess Championships 2012 will take place in the
Conference Center of Athos Palace****, a member of the G Hotels Group in
Kallithea, located on the Kassandra peninsula of Halkidiki, from June 12 to
21.
The event consists of 10 age group tournaments (Boys and Girls U9, Boys and
Girls U11, Boys and Girls U13, Boys and Girls U15, Boys and Girls U17). In

The latest tournament chess news via Chessdom is that the Open
Internacional Semana Santa Lab Chess is being held from 4th to 9th April at
the Centro Alto Rendimiento in Bogota, Colombia. The 9-round Accelerated
Swiss event features 156 players from four countries. Top rated are Cuban
Grandmasters Aramis Alvarez Pedraza and Reynaldo Ortiz Suarez, and

Right after winning the European Individual Chess Championships in both the
men and women's sections, Russia has now won the European Senior Team Chess
Championship as well!
The ECU and Slovenian Chess Federation organized the 11th European Senior
Teams Championship from March 26 to April 5, 2012, in Rogaska Slatina,
